PODHUT is a Shopify app made by POD Hut, a print-on-demand production shop. It lets a store owner map products to POD Hut's garments, design them in a studio, order samples and publish them to their own store. This page says what the app holds, why, and for how long.
What the app reads from your store
- Your store's domain and name, so the app knows which store it is working for.
- Your products and their variants (titles, handles, status, options, SKUs, prices as text), so you can decide which ones connect to POD Hut and so the app can write POD Hut SKUs on the variants you publish or attach.
- Your store's sales channels, so a product you publish can be listed on your Online Store.
- Your store's billing address, only to prefill the ship-to of a sample order. You can change it before placing the order.
- Your store's email addresses and your PODHUT plan, only to check whether the store is a POD Prime member: the app looks the emails up in POD Hut's own member list (the one podhut.com keeps) and quotes member prices if it finds one.
The app does not read your customers, orders, or payment details. It asks Shopify only for product and publication permissions.
What the app keeps
- The designs you create in the studio: your artwork, text, colours, sizes, the garment, the prices quoted, and the mockup image the studio draws.
- Your setup answers: business name, contact email and phone, expected volume, and the decision you made per product.
- Approval records made by POD Hut staff, the SKU rows they write, and the products the app published or attached on your store.
- Sample orders: sizes, quantities, prices, the ship-to address you typed, and your note.
- Your POD Prime status and where it came from (your plan, POD Hut's member list, or set by POD Hut).
- The access token Shopify issues to the app for your store, encrypted at rest, used only for the calls above.
The voice guide
The studio has an optional voice guide. Only when you turn it on, your microphone audio and the guide's spoken replies pass directly between your browser and xAI, the company that runs the voice. The app does not record or keep the audio or the words. Turn it off and nothing more is sent.
Samples ordered without a store
POD Hut's public studio also takes sample orders from people who have no store and no account. Stripe takes the payment; the app never sees card details. POD Hut keeps what Stripe returns (name, email, phone and ship-to address) with the order, to make and ship the sample.
Where it lives
On POD Hut's own platform database (Supabase, United States) and the app server (Vercel). Uploaded artwork and mockups are sent to Shopify only when you publish a product, as that product's image. Nothing is sold. Data goes only to the providers that run these features: Supabase and Vercel for everything above, xAI for the voice guide while it is on, and Stripe for public sample payments.
How long
As long as the app is installed. When you uninstall, the app stops reading your store at once. Forty-eight hours later Shopify sends the app its erasure request and the app erases what it holds for your store: the synced catalog, setup answers, product decisions, published-product records and the access token. Production records POD Hut needs for its own books (the SKU rows written for your approved designs and any sample order on an invoice) are kept by POD Hut under its own retention, no longer than the law requires.
Your requests
Shopify's data request and erasure webhooks are honoured automatically; every request is logged with what was done. For anything else, write to POD Hut at contact@podhut.com or call 313-476-3488.
